As no friction is generated, they are durable and low-maintenance.

High safety:

They prevent leaks and are suitable for hazardous or aggressive media.

Efficient power transmission:

The low-loss magnetic coupling ensures high efficiency.

Versatile applications:

They are used in pumps, agitators, and sensitive industrial applications.

Applications of magnetic couplings

Magnetic couplings are used in numerous applications where non-contact and leak-tight power transmission is required. They are found primarily in pumps, agitators, and compressors that handle aggressive, toxic, or sensitive media. Thanks to the non-contact torque transmission, they are wear-free, prevent leaks, and enable safe, low-maintenance operation. Especially in the chemical industry, medical technology, and vacuum technology, magnetic couplings provide a reliable and efficient solution.

Design of magnetic couplings

A magnetic coupling consists of two magnetic rotors—an internal drive rotor and an external driven rotor. These are separated from each other by a hermetic barrier (e.g., made of stainless steel or plastic). The magnets are arranged so that they transmit torque contactlessly from the drive to the output side. This creates a leak-tight, wear-free connection—ideal for use with sensitive or aggressive media.

How do magnetic couplings work?

Magnetic couplings are fascinating components that make it possible to transmit a motor’s power to a drive shaft without the two parts directly touching. How does that work? Quite simply—through the force of a magnetic field!

Imagine the motor drives the outer rotor of a magnetic coupling. This rotor is fitted with powerful magnets. On the other side is the inner rotor, which also has magnets. The attractive or repulsive force of these magnets causes the inner rotor to rotate—completely synchronised with the outer rotor. The exciting part: the two rotors never touch directly, yet the power transmission still works perfectly.

The inner rotor then drives the drive shaft, which, for example, powers a pump. The inside of the pump remains hermetically sealed thanks to a containment can. This is particularly important when toxic or corrosive substances are involved, as it prevents anything from leaking out of the pump.

Magnetic power transmission

With the help of magnetic couplings, non-contact torque transmission between two shafts is possible—even through separating walls. This prevents mechanical wear and makes operation particularly durable and low-maintenance.

Magnetic couplings FAQ

Can I customise my magnetic coupling in shape and size?

Yes, of course! Please let us know what you require, and we will design the right coupling for you.

Can I order only the inner rotor or the outer rotor?

Of course—no problem. You can even order only the magnet segments and assemble your own magnetic coupling or inner or outer rotor.

Is it possible to use special materials for the magnetic couplings as well?

That is generally possible as well. Simply let us know which material you require, and we will check availability.
