How sensor magnets work
Sensor magnets are the invisible heroes in countless applications – they provide the decisive magnetic field for the reliable operation of reed switches, Hall sensors and TMR sensors. But how exactly does the interaction of these components work?
The principle: magnetic field as a switching signal
Sensor magnets generate a defined magnetic field that is detected by various sensors:
1. Reed switches: These mechanical switches consist of two ferromagnetic contact reeds in a glass capsule. When a sensor magnet approaches, the reeds attract each other magnetically and close the circuit – contactless, wear-free and highly reliable.
2. Hall sensors: These semiconductor components measure the magnetic field strength and convert it into electrical signals. They are ideal for precise position detection and speed measurement.
3. TMR sensors (Tunnel Magneto Resistance): These sensors use quantum-mechanical effects to measure magnetic fields and offer maximum sensitivity with low energy consumption – perfect for demanding applications.
